PI
Jiyang Yu, PhD

Jiyang Yu, PhD
Principal Investigator

Dr. Jiyang Yu earned his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Zhejiang University, China. In 2008-2012, he was trained in Dr. Andrea Califano’s laboratory at Columbia University and earned his PhD degree in Biomedical Informatics. His studies were focused on integrating functional genomics with systems biology to discover drivers and therapeutic targets of human malignancies. Two of his discoveries successfully launched two clinical trials for breast cancer. After his PhD training, Dr. Yu joined Pfizer Oncology as a senior scientist to work on precision medicine.
In November 2016, Dr. Yu joined St. Jude and started his laboratory in the Department of Computational Biology to continue pursuing his interest in perfecting translational systems biology approaches to develop cancer treatment. His current research has extended to single-cell systems biology, systems immunology, and immunotherapy for pediatric cancers.

Liang (Adam) Ding, PhD
Bioinformatics Research Scientist

Liang (Adam) earned his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from The Unversity of Georgia in 2016, where he developed computational methods (BkTree) to predict RNA non-canonical interactions for de novo constructing RNA 3D structures. In Yu Lab, he is developing novel algorithms and computational tools for analyzing single-cell RNAseq and spatial transcriptome data. He is also intested in applying systems biology approaches to understand hidden drivers and novel theraputic targets for cancer treatment. On the engineering side, he likes workflow management systems and graph database.

Jingjing Liu, PhD

Jingjing Liu, PhD
Postdoctoral Research Associate

Jingjing received a BSc degree in Biological Sciences from China Agricultural University and a Ph.D. degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Virginia Tech. In her Ph.D., she studied how posttranslational modifications, especially ubiquitination, affect Circadian Rhythm regulation. She is fascinated by the fact that the vast diversity and complexity of life, from cell to organisms, is built upon a base of underlying unity. After her Ph.D. study, Jingjing decided to learn more Systems Biology approaches to understand how molecular or cellular level dysregulations lead to severe diseases, like cancer. Now, Jingjing is a postdoc research associate in St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Her major project is to identify hidden drivers of pediatric brain tumors with the goal of developing rational targeted combination therapeutics. Jingjing is very interested in studying brain development with single cell RNAseq data as well.
